What is Molly’s Project?

Molly’s Project was set up by The Middleton Foundation to provide social housing for people with learning difficulties and/or autism in the North-East of England.

The project was inspired by Molly Prince, the daughter of a close family friend of the Middleton family, whose experience highlighted the critical shortage of UK housing for those with severe mental challenges.

Our Mission

Molly’s Project is dedicated to helping individuals with autism and/or learning disabilities find a long-term, stable home. The project aims to provide safe, supportive, and affordable housing for those who struggle to transition into independent or supported living.

The Middleton Foundation partners with registered housing associations, drawing on their expertise and resources to ensure sustainable, long-term housing initiatives. Places for People is proud to be one of these partners, alongside YMCA North Tyneside, helping create homes where people with autism and learning disabilities can thrive.

Who we work with

Molly’s Project buys and adapts homes to meet residents’ needs when public provision falls short. Unlike some commercial providers, homes are never sold for profit. Flexible leases and fair rents – aligned with housing benefit – ensure affordability, while all income is reinvested into creating more homes. Volunteers provide trusted support, and partners such as Places for People help ensure Molly homes are safe, welcoming and well looked after.

How do we work

“I’m extremely grateful to YMCA North Tyneside and The Middleton Foundation for their financial support, which has provided my brother with a secure place to live, hopefully into his old age. This has given me confidence that he is well cared for and happy. I’ve noticed how relaxed and content he is when I visit, and what a difference this new home has made to his life”.
