Step 1: Join the Housing Register

Before applying for a Molly Home, you must register with your local council’s Housing Register. Your council will discuss the applicants housing needs and refer you to a local Housing Association.

Are you eligible for a Molly Home?

Step 2: Meet the Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for a Molly Home, the applicant must:

  • Be an adult with learning disabilities and/or autism.

  • Be based in the North East.

Step 3: Referral to a Housing Association

We currently work in partnership with YMCA North Tyneside.

Once you are referred, the Housing Association will:

  • Discuss suitable housing options with you.

  • Confirm whether the applicant meets the Molly’s Project criteria.

  • If eligible, the trustees of Molly’s Project will be notified and an active search for a suitable property will begin.

Step 4: Identifying a Property

When an appropriate property is found:

  • A Housing Benefit application will be submitted.

  • Approval must be secured before proceeding.

Step 6: Preparing your Home

While the purchase is progressing:

  • Any necessary adaptations or development works will be identified and scheduled.

  • Regular meetings will take place between Molly’s Project and the Housing Association to provide progress updates.

Updates will be shared with the future resident or their nominated representative throughout the process.

If you are not eligible for a Molly Home there are many other options available. Please see links below for more information.

Step 5: Making an Offer

Once Housing Benefit is approved:

  • The trustees will submit an offer on the property.

  • If accepted, Molly’s Project will proceed with the purchase.

This process can take up to 6 months.
