Our impact

Molly’s journey shows the power of a safe and supportive home - discover the impact across our community.

Molly’s Story

The project was inspired by Molly Prince, the daughter of a close family friend of the Middleton family. Diagnosed with learning disabilities and autism at a young age, Molly faced multiple failed transitions from residential college into supported living. Due to a severe shortage of suitable accommodations, her health deteriorated, leading to her detention under the Mental Health Act. In response, the Middleton Foundation purchased a home for Molly and two others in Carlisle, where she now lives with daily support and care. This change has transformed the lives of both Molly and her mother, Claire, who had struggled for years to find her a safe and suitable place to live.

Molly’s experience shed light on the critical shortage of housing for those with learning disabilities in the UK. As of 2026, the foundation has purchased 6 houses and are providing forever homes for 12 residents. They intend to acquire several properties over the coming years and reinvest all rental income into additional purchases.

“We’d been through so many systems that just didn’t work for Molly. It felt like no one could see what she really needed – a secure, permanent home. That‘s why what The Middleton Foundation has done means so much – they understood, and they acted. They’re making sure families like ours finally have real, lasting options.”

Megan’s Story

Megan has very complex additional needs, requiring 2:1 care at all times, even overnight. When she turned 18 it was incredibly difficult
to find suitable housing for her and to navigate the various social
workers with different responsibilities, benefits agencies and council departments.

The YMCA sourced a property specifically for Megan, which the Middleton Foundation then bought and leased, allowing Megan to claim all benefits she is entitled to. Together the Foundation and YMCA made sure all the work was done to suit her needs, as well as having it freshly decorated and carpeted.

Megan has loved her house from day one and settled really quickly. She is much happier in her own environment and more relaxed. There has been a marked difference to the seriousness and frequency of her challenging behaviours, I’m sure because she feels safe and secure.

The stability of having somewhere permanent has taken a huge amount of stress from our lives. Our family feel very blessed and will be forever grateful to The Middleton Foundation for this amazing opportunity and I sincerely hope that many more young people and their families can benefit from their work
